The musiclinks patch is used to share musical controls over the network between multiple computers during a performance. This patch needs to be part of your MPG performance patch. If you are testing without the group, it will often be necessary to run it in master mode, so that you have sufficient control. During performance, the role of master should be coordinated so that other machines are not confused.

The functions of the patch are divided into 3 parts by color. The first section is shaded deep purple and handles matters of network connectivity. The medium purple section handles information related to pitch and its related musical parameters. This is followed by the light purple section that handles tempo information.

Network connectivity / Deep Purple

max.nethole is used to add people to the roster
IP addresses of individual computers are stored throughout system
personal messages can be sent to targeted computers by prepending the name registered to an IP

Pitch / Medium Purple

parameter description
tonic sets the primary pitch for the prevailing scale, note name and octave
scale_basis drop down menu provides a large assortment of common scales
scale_struct displays structure in half-steps, allows for modifications to be made
chord_root defines which index in the scale is to be used for primary pitch in the chord
chord_struct defines the structure of the chord based on the position of indices within scale

bpm assumes 4 bars of common time
